The American Meteorological Society (AMS) promotes the development and dissemination of information and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences and the advancement of their professional applications. The Society’s goals are to:

foster an environment in which the government, academic, and private sectors in the atmospheric and related sciences and services work cooperatively to serve the public good

broaden the appreciation of advances in the atmospheric and related sciences and the value these advances provide to the nation and the world

Founded in 1919, AMS has a membership of 14,000, publishes 11 atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic journals, sponsors at least 12 conferences annually, and off ers numerous programs and services.

To fulfi l its responsibilities, NESDIS acquires and manages US operational environmental satellites, operates the NOAA National Data Centers, provides data and information services including Earth system monitoring, performs offi cial assessments of the environment, and conducts related research.

The NESDIS vision is to be the world’s most comprehensive source and recognized authority for satellite products, environmental information, and official assessments of the environment in support of societal and economic decisions.

The EMS, founded in 1999, is an association of 36 meteorological societies in Europe. Twenty-nine Associate Members that include national meteorological and hydrological services, Europe-wide organisations, private service providers, manufacturers and educational institutions are an integral part of the community.

Its major purpose is to facilitate the exchange of information within the meteorological community in Europe and to support and enhance the activities of its Members by broadening their own role to the European scale. The major activity in that respect is the running the EMS Annual Meetings.
